• Description: This beginning-level noncredit ESL course focuses on English communication skills within the context of child care and parenting. Students develop skills in reading, writing, listening and speaking while practicing English grammar and vocabulary for communicating with and about children on topics including day-to-day care and safety. This course is part of a sequence of courses designed to prepare students for child development coursework.

• Description: This course is intended to meet the specific vocabulary needs of ESL students in an academic setting and expand on students' knowledge of academic vocabulary. This course focuses not only on a vocabulary item but also on words related to that item, different grammatical forms of that item, and affixes that the word might have. Students will encounter multiple exposures to target words in meaningful contexts.

• Description: Designed to assist second language learners in developing the reading and writing skills and strategies required for success in ENGL 1A and similar transfer-level, writing-intensive courses. Reinforcement of reading skills and strategies as they pertain to comprehension of content and critical analysis of rhetorical elements. Development of critical thinking skills and strategies related to the process of expository and argumentative writing. Application of essay revision and editing skills to include appropriate content, coherence, sentence efficiency and variety, and grammatical accuracy.
