Enrollment Growth. Enrollment for the Winter Quarter is healthy.

The Winter Quarter has ushered in winter weather, making the free coffee carts around campus a much needed treat. Thanks ASFC! Here is the first 12345 of the new year. 5 things to know or places to be!

(1) Enrollment Growth

Enrollment for the Winter Quarter is healthy. As of today, we are experiencing a ~11% increase in FTES over the last winter quarter with well over 800 additional students.

(2) Jewish Heritage Month

I’ll join student leaders at the opening ceremony today in the Dining Hall at noon. Come out for this important celebration.

(3) Celebration of Owls Undefeated and Championship Season

This Thursday is a pizza party and championship celebration of the Owl's undefeated 11-0 season. I’ll be in the Library Quad at noon.

(4) Asian American, Native Hawaiian, Pacific Islander Student Achievement Program

The purpose of the Asian American, Native Hawaiian, Pacific Islander (AANHPI) Student Achieve Program is to provide culturally responsive services that enhance the educational experiences and promote success for low-income, first generation AANHPI students. A collaboration between the California Coalition on Asian and Pacific Islander American Affairs, the California Community Colleges Chancellor’s Office, Asian Pacific Americans in Higher Education, and the Foundation for California Community Colleges, the initiative identifies 7 core focus areas: culturally responsive learning communities; advising and counseling services; mental health counseling and awareness services; career development, career readiness, and employment services; supplemental instruction and tutoring, such as English language development and support; API Studies courses and curriculum development; and leadership development, internships, and mentorships.Foothill will embark on this work in the winter quarter, introducing interested members of the campus community to the initiative and its purpose and engaging stakeholders to consider our current understanding of the AANPI student populations at Foothill, to identify data necessary to deepen that understanding, to brainstorm ideas for meaningful local projects/programs/activities that support students at Foothill, and to develop coordinated action plans for prioritizing and moving forward. We’ll align this work to existing synergistic initiatives, in particular the college’s activities for Ethnic Studies Seamless Transfer and our 13-55 focus on Issue 9. (5) Save the Date: Dual Enrollment Summit

Foothill College is excited to announce that we will be holding the 2024 Dual Enrollment Summit on Friday, March 8. This event is an opportunity for community colleges and high-school districts to come together to share best practices and learn from each other. We'll get the latest legislative updates, hear from dual-enrolled students and faculty, look at recent data, and have an opportunity to work together to identify pain points and propose new legislation for the State of California to help all of us do this very important work. We are also excited to announce that California Community College Chancellor, Dr. Sonya Christian, will be participating and will deliver the opening address. We will follow up with a full agenda later in January, but please register for this event here.
