Dear Foothill Community,
It is with deep gratitude that I share the news that the resolution designating Foothill-De Anza as a sanctuary campus has officially passed. This achievement reflects the culmination of tireless advocacy,
thought leadership, and a shared commitment to the values that unite us as an inclusive
and supportive community.
This resolution represents the collaborative efforts of individuals across both campuses. At Foothill College, I extend heartfelt thanks to the Academic Senate and Classified Senate for their dedication and leadership throughout this process, with special thanks to Suzy Quezada, Voltaire Villanueva, and Pauline Brown for serving on the cross-district team that reconciled language across two campuses. I am incredibly grateful to the Student Services team at the BIPOC Center for supporting and amplifying student voices and ensuring their perspectives were central to this resolution.
We also want to recognize the invaluable contributions of our faculty leaders who support our learning communities, particularly Hilda Fernandez and Maritza Jackson Sandoval. Your fierce commitment to equity and inclusion pushes us to accept nothing short of liberation.
Additional gratitude goes to student trustee Zara Ainge, whose perspective made clear to me the need to communicate more broadly and clearly to students and the campus community.
While passing this resolution is a significant declaration, it also serves as a powerful call to action—an invitation to continue fostering a campus environment where every member feels safer, highly valued, and empowered to move forward. Together, we must ensure that the principles behind this designation are reflected in our daily practices and interactions. I will continue working with the Chancellor, FHDA Foundation, and senior leadership team--striving to find the resources needed to support Foothill College students as they build their dreams and a stronger community for all.
Yours in service,
Kristina
