President's 12345 Message from Kristina Whalen

April 16, 2024

(1) Foothill 2030: Vision for Success Goals are forming. Your voice is valued.

Our next step in the creation of our strategic plan, Foothill 2030: Vision for Success, is to solidify our goals and objectives through a series of drop in sessions. To ensure these goals reflect the perspectives of the whole college, we need your active voice. Drop by Admin 1901 on Tues, April 29th, or Wed, April 30th anytime from 11 am- 1 pm. There will be an interactive exercise that will take about 20 minutes. (And, of course, there will be food!). If you can't make it in person, there will also be a Zoom version happening at the same times.
Meeting ID: 865 8729 5236
Passcode: 463055

(2) Foothill Hall of Fame Ceremony, October 4th, Tickets on sale now.

The Foothill Community Ambassadors, current and retired faculty, the FHDA Foundation and the Office of the President are partnering to host an inaugural Foothill Hall of Fame celebration. This dinner and ceremony will honor 5 accomplished alumni across a variety of professions. The honorees may have graduated in different decades but all provide an inspiring footnote to Foothill. Each recipient has committed to attending. The inductees are:

  • Brad Gilbert, Tennis Professional, Commentator, and Elite Coach (Andre Agassi, Andy Roddick, Coco Gauff)
  • Wei-ting Chen, Executive Director of Stanford’s Food for Health Equity Lab
  • Andrew Houston, Principal Campus Counsel at UC Berkeley
  • Ricky Holder, Chicago’s Institute of Politics & Marshall Scholar
  • Michelle Romero, Executive Director of We Create The Future and former ED for Dreamcorp.org

Visit our ticketing page to reserve your seat. And, please pass along an opportunity to sponsor this event to those in your network.

(3) Graduation 2025 - Come to the Big Tent

Before we get to the celebrations in fall 2025, we will all enjoy the celebratory energy of student achievement this spring, with some 30 different ceremonies taking place May - June. Save some gas in your tank for the big party, Commencement, on June 27 at 10 am. Last year, the planning team received lots of positive feedback about the 10 am start time for graduation, but the sustained direct sunlight was difficult in the black robes. This year, Student Services will “tent the quad” to provide the sun protection we need with the benefit of the earlier start time.

(4) TEDx Sold Out

The student-powered Foothill TEDx, which will be held on April 17th, has sold out. What a success!

(5) Classified Professional Day.

I look forward to joining Classified Professionals from across the district at lunch during the annual Classified Professional Development Day this Friday. To my classified colleagues: The district’s commitment to your professional development is an investment in student success. To all the professionals in the field, I hope the day empowers you with up-to-date skills and supports your career growth. And I hope you have a little fun too. Your expertise and dedication are vital to our campus, and by investing in your development, we recognize your vital role in making our college a better place for everyone.
We will not hold a Mission Informed Planning Council meeting this Friday to encourage attendance at this important event.

Yours in service,
Kristina
