Our Case Competition 2024 Partnership

Foothill College * Google

This year we are partnering with Google, the most popular search engine in the western world and the most visited website on earth, to address a problem that the company is facing.

Students will form teams and compete against each other to develop the best business solution for Google’s problem. 

The winning team will be invited to present their work in person onsite at Google!

Who Can Participate?

Any community college student (not just Foothill College) from any major is encouraged to participate.

All you need is curiosity, desire to learn, and passion for getting real experience to make a difference in the world! Support will be offered to students on how to approach and succeed in the Case Competition.

What Are The Key Components

  • Students who join the competition can participate in teams of up to four students.
  • Students will learn about Google, and a specific project/problem they are working on.
  • Teams will then be given a prompt that is based on the project/problem.
  • Teams will develop a presentation that addresses the prompt.
  • The competition will be conducted in three rounds to identify the best presentation.

Preliminary Round

The Preliminary Round will consist of an online submission of a first draft submission team presentations. The due date for the Preliminary Round is Wednesday, Oct. 23 at 11:59 p.m.

Submissions will be collected via Canvas. All team members will be required to join a Canvas Shell dedicated to the Case Competition. Instructions for joining the Canvas Shell will be made available at the first event in this series.

All teams that submit a Preliminary Round entry will have the opportunity to receive live feedback on their Preliminary Round submission from Google professionals.

Teams will then be allowed to turn in a Round Two submission, which incorporates the feedback and addresses additional submission requirements.

Round One

Round One will consist of an online submission of a second draft response to the competition prompt. The due date for the Round One submission is Wednesday, Oct. 30, 11:59 p.m. Submissions will be collected via Canvas.

A selected group of teams will have the opportunity to receive live feedback on their Round One submission from Google professionals.

Teams will then be allowed to turn in a Final Round submission which incorporates the feedback and addresses additional submission requirements. 

Round Two

The Final Round will consist of a live presentation event on Thursday, Nov. 21, where six selected teams will share their work with Google professionals as well as many seasoned experts in the field. 

The Final Round will begin with an online submission of a third draft response to the competition prompt. The due date for the Final Round submission is Wednesday, Nov. 6 at 11:59 p.m. Submissions will be collected via Canvas.

Six teams will be selected to continue in the Final Round and present live on Thursday, Nov. 21, where the selected teams will share their work with Google professionals, as well as many seasoned experts in the field. Finalist teams will receive mentorship from business professionals to help them with their final presentations.

Wednesday, Oct. 9: The Info Session

Information session where you can learn more details about the competition, including competition rules, the timeline, and other important specifics

Monday, Oct. 14: Kick-Off

3-4 p.m., Hearthside Lounge (2313)
The official start of the competition, where you will learn about the project that you will be working on, as well as details about what you will be expected to work on.

Wednesday, Oct. 23: Preliminary Round Submission Due 

This is the is the deadline for the initial submission for the competition due by 11:59 p.m. via Canvas. All students are welcome to participate.

Wednesday, Oct. 30: 1st Round Submission Due

This is the is the deadline for the second submission for the competition due by 11:59 p.m. via Canvas. Selected student teams will be invited to participate in this round.

Wednesday, Nov. 6: Final Round Submission Due

This is the deadline for the third submission for the competition due by 11:59 p.m. via Canvas. Selected student teams will be invited to submit a final online draft response to the competition prompt in order to participate in the final round live presentation.

Thursday, Nov. 21: Live Presentation

1-4 p.m. in The Dining Hall (Tentative)
Six finalist teams will be invited to present live to a panel of esteemed judges.

Get Started

If you are interested in joining this incredible opportunity, here are the first steps you should take.

Not ready for steps 1 and 2? Start with step 3 and attend the Info Session on Wednesday, Oct. 9.

Form a Team

Look for students with diverse backgrounds, varied majors, interests and skills. Teams can be 1-4 students. All members must be college students, and at least one student on the team must be a Foothill College student.

Join the Canvas Shell

Attend the Info Session

The Business & Entrepreneurship Club will sponsor an Info Session for The Case Competition on Wednedsay, Oct. 9, at 3-4 p.m. in the Hearthside Lounge (2313). You'll learn more about the competition, ask questions, and look for teammates if needed.

Attend the Event Kickoff

The event officially begins on Monday, Oct. 14 at 3-4 p.m. in a location to be determined. This is the official start of the competition, where you will learn about the project that you will be working on, as well as details about what you will be expected to work on.
