After taking an Introduction to Engineering, Statics, Circuits, and Properties of Materials at Foothill College, one student transferred to Cal Poly Pomona in Industrial Engineering.
Q. What do you love about being an engineer? A. The challenge of finding a solution to a problem and applying the knowledge gained in school to real world problems.
Q. What do you like about the lifestyle of an engineer? There are a lot of job opportunities in different fields around the country and world.
Q. What are some of the places that you have worked? A. Vinyl Technology Inc., Crate&Barrel
Q. What is one piece of advice for an engineer who is just starting at Foothill? A. Travel abroad and get an internship.
Another student took Calculus, Differential Equations, Introduction to Engineering, Chemistry, and a few others at Foothill College before transferring into a Mechanical Engineering program at Boston University.
- What do you love about being an engineer? Being able to make anything you want.
- What do you like about the lifestyle of an engineer? People who are genuinely into the engineering principles and process usually have free time, which can be interpreted as good or bad, up to the viewer.
- What are some of the places that you have worked? MIT robotics lab, freelance product design, BU as solid works teacher.
- What is one piece of advice for an engineer who is just starting at Foothill? Work on as many projects as possible, which can be challenging due to no machine shop, but find a way! Always make physical projects, and lots of them.
Some students, such as this Computer Science and Engineering student at UC Davis, took the majority of their courses, including Physics, Chemistry, Engineering, Math, English and Computer Science, at Foothill before transferring.
- What do you love about being an engineer? The working environment.
- What do you like about the lifestyle of an engineer? The flexibility of the schedule (esp since you have weekends off).
- What are some of the places that you have worked? Start-ups and now I'm currently working at Workday located in Pleasanton.
- What is one piece of advice for an engineer who is just starting at Foothill? It's a bit bias, but take some computer science courses. The ability to be able to program is very attractive to companies nowadays.
