California College Promise Grant: Fast & Simple

State law requires that students attending California Community Colleges pay enrollment fees.

The California College Promise Grant (formerly known as the BOG [Board of Governors] Fee Waiver) permits these enrollment fees to be waived for all eligible California and AB540 students.
Please be aware that the California College Promise Grant is designed to cover your enrollment fees only.
Other campus resources exist to assist with the purchase of books and supplies and must be applied for separately.
The California College Promise Grant provides a 50% discount on the Foothill quarterly parking permit.

If you submit a California College Promise Grant application, we also encourage you to find out if you are eligible for other types of financial aid by filing either a FAFSA or California Dream Act Application.

*Important: You MUST REAPPLY for the California College Promise Grant for each new academic year (July 1 - June 30).

Also, beginning effective Fall 2016, California Community College students receiving the California College Promise Grant must meet minimum academic and progress standards to remain eligible for the California College Promise Grant.

*Important Note* For Dental Hygiene Bachelor's degree seekers: who wish to apply for a California College Promise Grant (formerly the Board of Governors Fee Waiver) pursuant to Education Code Section 76300 shall be required to complete and submit either a Free Application for Federal Student Aid or a California Dream Act Application in lieu of completing the California College Promise Grant (formerly known as the BOG [Board of Governors] Fee Waiver) application.

Q. What is a California College Promise Grant?

The California College Promise Grant is funded by the State of California to fully waive the enrollment fees charged to eligible California residents and AB 540 students who are attending community college. To determine your eligibility for the California College Promise Grant, you need to complete either the FAFSA, if you are a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen; the CA Dream Act if you fall into the category of AB 540 students; or the California College Promise Grant application.

Q. I've heard about waivers for the enrollment fee at California Community Colleges, but I'm not on public assistance. Even so, I won't be able to afford the per unit cost. What can I do?

You might qualify for an enrollment fee waiver if you meet certain income requirements based on family size. There is a simple, one page application for the California College Promise Grant available online at any California Community College Financial Aid website or you may contact any California Community College Financial Aid Office for more information.

Q. If I qualified for a California College Promise Grant at De Anza College, how can I get it at Foothill College too?

If you qualified for the California College Promise Grant at one school, you can simply notify the other school's Financial Aid Office to get your California College Promise Grant there as well.

Q. What is the difference between the California College Promise Grant and the Foothill Promise?

The California College Promise Grant is open to students no matter how many years they’ve attended college, has no unit requirement, is need-based, covers tuition only, and provides a discount on the quarterly parking permit.

The Foothill Promise is only for first-time college students, requires full-time enrollment *(12+ units) for Fall, Winter and Spring quarters *(Only 6+ units is required for students with reduced course load authorizations.), is NOT need-based, and covers all tuition, basic student fees, and required books and supplies that are not covered by other programs.

Students can receive both the California College Promise Grant and the Foothill Promise.
