AA in Art
Program Description
The studio art program empowers students to learn diverse perspectives and practical portfolio-art skills for transfer into art schools and university studio art programs. The Associate in Arts degree and Certificate of Achievement offer a range of beginning to intermediate level ceramics, digital arts, drawing, life drawing, 2-D and 3-D design, painting, and art theory. Our equitable schedule of courses is offered on weekdays, weeknights, weekends, face-to-face, virtual, hybrid, and online to fit students' needs.

Program Learning Outcomes
Students will be able to:
Create two- and three-dimensional artwork using drawing, paintings, design, ceramics, and/or digital tools, materials, methods, and techniques.
Create artwork that communicates diverse cultural and personal perspectives and the human condition.
Analyze and assess diverse historical and current two- and three-dimensional works of art relating to art and theory.
Translate concepts and visual experiences into images, tactile, and digital forms.

Associate Degree Requirements
A minimum of 90 units is required* to complete the associate degree, including:
Core and support courses for the major (32.5 units total)
Completion of one of the following general education patterns:

Summer Session 2025 only–CSU General Education Breadth (CSU GE Breadth)**
Summer Session 2025 only–Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum (IGETC)**
Beginning Fall Quarter 2025–California General Education Transfer Curriculum (Cal-GETC)***
* Additional elective course work may be necessary to meet the 90-unit minimum requirement for the associate degree.
** Summer Session 2025 is the final term during which CSU GE Breadth and IGETC may be used. Please see a counselor for more information.

Note: A grade of "C" (or "P") or better is required for all core and support courses used for the degree or certificates. In addition, the student must obtain a minimum GPA of 2.0.
