Why STEM?

Silicon Valley’s Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) related workforce does not represent the diversity of its population.

STEM mentoring can be an important lever for sparking the inspiration that leads students to pursue jobs in science and tech, and we believe that it should be as widely available to and utilized by girls, low-income students and underrepresented students of color as it is for other students.

Mission of Our Coalition

Our cross-sector coalition envisions equitable access to quality STEM mentoring opportunities in Silicon Valley, building empowerment and career success one student at a time.

We will do this by aligning and growing resources to support high-impact, mentor-led STEM learning opportunities at key points in the K-20 pipeline.

The coalition will provide space for the community to troubleshoot challenges, celebrate successes, and combine resources to accomplish together what can be difficult for any one organization to do alone.

The Possible Self event is an Extreme STEM Expo for middle school students, featuring interactive presentations by exclusive and handpicked group of organizations, companies and visionaries, who aim to empower and inspire kids about careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Our hope is that these exhibits will ignite student’s curiosity through, experientials, storytelling, and live demonstrations.

Possible Self will give students (aspiring scientists and engineers) the opportunity to meet some influential people, who are here, making changes in the world. The goal of this event is to get students excited about this event and about STEM! The expo will masterfully integrate Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematical discoveries with unforgettable hands on encounters that visitors will not want to miss
