Zero and Low-Cost Textbook Options

The rising cost of textbooks is a significant barrier to student success. To address this, at Foothill we’re expanding Zero-Textbook-Cost (ZTC) and Low-Textbook Cost (LTC) options. Our aim is to reduce the financial cost of education by providing free or low-cost materials that are available from day one.

What is ZTC and LTC?

  • Zero Textbook Cost (ZTC) means students don’t pay for required course materials such as textbooks, workbooks, lab manuals, readers, or specialized software. ZTC can include OER as well as other free resources like library materials or web content.
  • Low Textbook Cost (LTC) designation indicates that the required course materials cost less than 30 dollars, total.

Why Choose a ZTC or LTC Course?

  • You pay as little as $0 and no more than $30 for required course materials.
  • Most ZTC resources are available on day one – no more falling behind because you don’t have the text!

How to Find a ZTC or LTC Course at Foothill College

In the Foothill Searchable Class Schedule, use the “Textbooks” filter to find course sections with No Cost or the Low-Cost (Select the less than < $30). The No Cost option results will display as $0.
